Over 991 feet of whisky, brandy, and natural kangaroo leather is used to handcraft these romal reins.

Due to its composition, kangaroo leather is ideal for this application as it maintains greater tensile strength than other leathers of similar size and thickness. All leather is hand cut to various widths, stretched, split to appropriate thickness and beveled.

Reins are sixteen thongs (strips of leather) plaited over 1/4” leather core. Romal is twenty thongs plaited over 3/8” leather core.

Set contains one hundred four visible buttons (knots) and many invisible groundwork buttons. At bit end of reins and both ends of romal there is a long, tapered whisky pineapple button with three herringbone interweaves of whisky, brandy, and natural colors. Three-pass Spanish ring knots are at the top and bottom of these buttons. Reins and romal have repeating sequences of whisky Turk’s head and herringbone interweave button with a brandy second interweave, natural and whisky three-pass Spanish ring knot, whisky Turk’s head with gaucho interweave button, and whisky pineapple button with natural herringbone interweave.

Reins have wear leathers for durability. Rein connectors are 6 plaited thongs. Rein connector buttons include two whisky Turk’s head with gaucho interweave buttons and one whisky Turk’s head with brandy herringbone interweave button.

Rein and romal connector is 12 thongs plaited over 3/16” leather core. Connector includes two whisky Turk’s head with gaucho interweave buttons and one large, round whisky Turk’s button with three interweaves of whisky, brandy, and natural colors.

Bridle leather popper is lined with dark brown goat leather and hand-stitched at eight stitches per inch. Five Turk’s head with gaucho interweave buttons secure popper to romal. These buttons are solid colors of whisky, brandy, or natural kangaroo leather.
